Chasing and Repousse
Instructor: Thomas & Kay Benham
Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7 & 8, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

We will perform introductory exercises and projects that will introduce and reinforce basic techniques of the discipline. Surface and background textures will be demonstrated as well as ways to patina and color the metal of the finished jewelry. The workshop will feature low relief chasing and repoussé skills as well as demonstrating how to generate large relief or high volume work such as faces or animal subjects.

Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12 & 13, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This two day workshop will involve learning the principles of tying complex two dimensional knots (the Prolong Knot) in pure silver forming a bracelet on day 1 and 3 dimensional (the Turk's-head knot) work for a ring on day 2. Students can expect to leave with at least one of each completed bracelet and ring. After the work is done, there will be demonstrations for use of the same techniques to produce other items.
